"We will be strong... we will be great... 'cause we're from Texas Girls State"
The American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary began an effort over 75 years ago to devise a means to educate our youth in the duties, privileges and responsibilities of American citizenship; give future citizens, in a realistic manner, an opportunity to learn the problems of government by performing the same duties as real office holders in the everyday world; inform them of the rights and privileges of American citizenship; and instill a deep sense of the personal responsibilities and obligations which this citizenship entails.
The American Legion's participatory program for young men is known as Boys State (interested junior boys can learn more here), and the Auxiliary's program for young women is known as Girls State. There is a Girls State program in every state in the U.S. The Texas program, Bluebonnet Girls State, is one of the most well-respected and prestigious student leadership experiences in the country.
ALA Unit 178 is proud to have one of the strongest Girls State programs in North Texas.
The application window and selection process for 2024 Texas Girls State is underway for the Class of 2025.
Interested high school sophomores should contact their guidance counselor now, to express interest regarding the 2025 Girls State program. Your counselor can provide information and instructions for application. If you cannot get information through your school, please contact our GS Chair.
Our selection process and timeline are different from that of Texas Boys State, so be sure you are relying strictly on information received here, or from your counselor.
If you have questions about the Unit 178 delegation to Texas Girls State, which are not answered at this website or by your counselor, please contact our GS Chair.
